Spirax Sarco BT6-B clean service balanced pressure steam traps are designed for condensate removal in clean and pure systems, including sterilizers, main drainage, CIP/SIP systems, and process piping. The valve body is manufactured from 316L stainless steel, and the seat is inclined at 15° to ensure self-drainage. The temperature-sensitive element responds precisely to condensate temperature and discharges at a temperature close to saturation temperature. In typical clean applications with steam pressure below 2.5barg, the drainage temperature is within 2℃ of saturated steam temperature. Each steam trap is individually packaged in a clean environment, with protective caps fitted to the inlet and outlet and sealed in a plastic bag.

Surface Finish

The internal surface is polished to 0.6μm(25 micro-inch Ra), and the external surface is polished to 1.0μm(40 micro-inch Ra). Electropolishing to 0.375μm(15 micro-inch Ra) is available as an option.

Standards

The product fully complies with ASME BPE and the European Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU. All seals comply with FDA CFR title 21,part 177,section 1550 and USP24 Class VI, and are ADI (animal-derived ingredient)-free.

Installation Notes

BT6-B is designed for vertical installation with the flow direction downward to ensure self-drainage of the valve body. During installation, check the flow-direction arrow on the valve body. Gaskets and installation clamps are not supplied with the product. A cooling section of pipe must be provided upstream to prevent condensate from accumulating in the process equipment during normal operation. The temperature-sensing element must not be exposed to superheated conditions. Handle all components carefully to prevent damage to machined surfaces.

Operation

The operating element is a stainless steel capsule filled with temperature-sensitive fluid. During cold start-up or under cold conditions, the capsule is relaxed and the valve plug and seat are fully open, allowing large quantities of air, condensate, and IP medium to be discharged. As the system temperature approaches saturated steam temperature, the fluid inside the capsule expands and closes the valve to prevent steam leakage. The closing temperature is close to saturated steam temperature, ensuring effective system drainage.
