Description

Inverted Bucket Steam Trap – 980 Series

The inverted bucket is the most reliable steam trap principle known, providing efficient condensate drainage for virtually every type of steam-using equipment. Applying the inverted bucket principle to a rugged cast-iron assembly gives you advantages in two areas. Because Armstrong cast-iron inverted bucket traps can operate efficiently for extended periods, they significantly reduce energy consumption and lower replacement and labor costs.

A unique lever system multiplies the force generated by the inverted bucket, enabling the valve to open against system pressure. The assembly is free-floating, with no fixed pivot point to cause wear or friction.

Because the assembly is located at the top of the steam trap, dirt does not accumulate at the valve orifice. Small dirt particles remain suspended until the bucket sinks and pulls the disc away from the seat. At that point, the dirt particles are discharged by the differential pressure.

The discharge orifice is surrounded by a water seal to prevent the loss of live steam. A small vent hole in the bucket creates an automatic air venting system that continuously discharges air and CO2 at steam temperature.

Although water discharge may occasionally be interrupted, the inverted bucket steam trap provides continuous drainage to prevent condensate backup. The valve is also resistant to water hammer.
