Description
Spirax Sarco EL2270 and EL2271 temperature sensors. EL2270 is a PT100 platinum resistance temperature sensor for general industrial applications. It is a three-wire RTD compliant with EN60751: Class A and can be connected to temperature indicators or controllers with three-wire PT100 inputs. For specific applications, options include a fast-response version with a 40mm insertion depth and a compact sensor with a 39mm insertion length and ¼” BSP threaded connection. EL2271 combines a PT100 sensor and transmitter. The three-wire sensing element complies with EN60751: Class A, while the transmitter provides a 4 - 20mA output and complies with ATEX 1G EExia IIC/IIB T4/T5/T6. It can be calibrated on site from -50°C to 500°C. The 4 - 20mA output can be connected to equipment with a corresponding input. Three-point calibration transmitter versions are also available.

Thermowells
Three types of thermowells are available:

Thin-wall thermowell with a ½” NPT threaded connection;

Tapered-bore thermowell with a ½” NPT threaded connection;

Sanitary thermowell compliant with 3A sanitary standards, with a 1½” sanitary clamp connection (ASME BPE), electropolished to 0.4μm; certification is available on request. The compact EL2270 is supplied without a thermowell. Thermowells are made of 316 stainless steel and are rated for a maximum temperature of 500°C. Select the thermowell according to sensor insertion length ‘D’. Thermowell dimension “F” is shorter than sensor dimension “D”. Thermowells for 225mm and 725mm sensors are for non-flowing applications only.

Pressure/Temperature Limits
Temperature sensors can be used in applications where process temperature remains within the specified range. Thermowells must be added for high-temperature and high-pressure applications. For air and steam applications, fluid velocity should be below 45m/s. For liquid applications, a velocity of 5m/s is recommended; 700mm and 200mm versions are for non-flowing applications only. Products have different pressure and temperature limits with and without a thermowell, and certain operating regions are not permitted.
