Spirax Sarco LC3050 level controller is designed for high- and low-level alarms in conductive liquids and is defined in EN 12592-11 as a “specially designed water-level limiter.” It is suitable for steam or hot-water boilers with an operating limit of 32bar@239°C. The controller supports dual-voltage power supply, 230Vac or 115Vac, and is used with Spirax Sarco high- or low-level, self-monitoring high-accuracy level sensors. Two LEDs indicate normal and alarm conditions, and one test button (AL) is provided; other buttons are not used. The product supports panel, DIN-rail, or baseplate mounting. Every few seconds, the controller internally simulates a probe fault to perform an automatic cyclic test of the probe, probe cable, and controller. A test button enables comprehensive testing of the sensor, controller, and associated circuit. A remote test button can be provided if required.

Function / Inputs / Outputs

The controller normally activates an alarm relay to signal that the liquid level in a steam or hot-water boiler, tank, or vessel has moved outside the normal range. Spirax Sarco high-accuracy self-monitoring sensors can indicate internal faults and leakage. The controller compares the sensor resistance to earth through the water to the boiler or vessel shell. If a change in water level causes the resistance to exceed the set point, the timer changes the state of the internal relay after a preset delay. The signal is normally used to trigger an alarm and cut off power to the burner.

The product accepts inputs from LP30 low-level sensors and LP31 high-level sensors. At a normal water level, the green LED illuminates and the boiler panel indicates a normal water level. Every few seconds, the green LED briefly switches off to indicate that an automatic cyclic test is in progress. If a sensor fault is caused by an internal wiring fault or leakage, the compensation probe in the sensor issues an alarm signal. Parameters can be transmitted through RS485/MODBUS communication.

Additional Features

LC3050 can communicate with an adjacent controller through infrared communication. The LC3050 alarm status can be transmitted to a user-supplied RS485 device. The user device can include a graphical display. LC3050 is defined as a slave and requires no setup or adjustment.

Caution: Ensure that there is no condensation inside the product before installing and connecting the power supply. The product can be mounted on a DIN rail, baseplate, or panel. An instrument bezel is supplied. The product must be installed in a suitable industrial control panel or fireproof enclosure to provide protection against impact and environmental conditions. Minimum protection of IP54 (EN 60529) or Type 3, 3S, 4, 4X, 6, 6P, and 13 (UL50/NEMA 250) is required. Spirax Sarco supplies suitable plastic and metal enclosures.

• Do not install outdoors without additional weather protection.

• Do not attempt to open the product. It is sealed and contains no replaceable parts or internal switches.

• Do not obstruct the infrared light between products.
